About Art Becker
I formed BECONCO in September of 1993. It has been a successful endeavor and I enjoy my work. It is a one man Operation.
MY BUSINESS DOCTRINE: The primary objective of any business is to earn a profit. Profitability is a primary consideration in my solution to a Client's problem. That solution will be innovative and correct and will maximize the return on my Client's investment.
I learned Drafting skills as a youngster in New York, designing model airplanes. I entered the business world as a Jr. Draftsman at Reeves Instrument Co.-Naval Gunfire Control Equipment. Started night school - thirteen years toward an Aeronautical Engineering Degree. Joined Avien, Inc. as a Draftsman - Aircraft Capacitance Fuel Gages, Mass Rate Flowmeters, Jet Engine Temperature Indicators. Promoted to Mechanical Designer, then to Design Engineer, to Project Engineer and to Product Design Supervisor, responsible for 21 Engineers, Designers and Draftsman.
Came to Reading, PA, as Chief Engineer of Pennsylvania Optical Company and after one year transferred to that Company's Renauld Division (Optical Polarizers) as Plant Manager, making the transition to Manufacturing. I found Manufacturing to be a fascinating engineering problem and decided to stay in that discipline. Moved to Reading Tube Company, first as Senior Engineer for two years then took over as Plant Manager of the Readi-Fin Division...a separate Plant specializing in fabricated tubular metal products. Managed the Plant and the business for twelve years, becoming the General Manager. Readi-Fin was a profitable Operation.
Joined several other local Companies in the capacity of Plant and Manufacturing Management, in the fields of brass hardware manufacture and finishing, optical polarizers, thermo-formed plastic products, stainless steel marine hardware and small diameter precision drawn metal tubing.
I am a Private Pilot and an Amateur Radio Operator (KB3LDI). I also enjoy building model aircraft; HO scale trains and pistol target shooting.
